Each year the SAME Los Angeles Post awards engineering students from local area universities with Post Scholarships. Our Scholarship Program keeps growing each year, and for 2011, we are proud to be able to award six deserving students each with a $2,000 Scholarship.

SAME LA will award 4 to 8 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 in the spring of 2012.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

• Los Angeles County high school student
• Graduating in Spring 2012
• Accepted to a US college in an accredited program in math,
00engineering, science, or engineering or science technology program
• Start college program by September 2012
• Attend a SAME luncheon in April 2012 to accept scholarship

Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) Outreach Program delivers on-campus interaction designed to increase science, technology, engineering and mathematics literacy and enthusiasm among P-8 students, their families, and educators. The interaction grabs students’ attention with exciting demonstrations while introducing them to the wonders of our world and confronting their stereotypes of the scientists who explore these wonders. The program addresses concepts in an age appropriate manner and helps students to master California Learning Standards. To encourage interaction between students and presenters, group sizes are kept small.

STEM Outreach has three purposes:

Build interest and excitement about STEM through standards-based presentations at schools.
Raise education aspirations, knowledge of STEM, and interest in attending higher education by coordinating activities such as structured campus visits, special events, and camps.
Improve teaching of STEM subjects by collaborating with teacher preparation and professional development activities.

SAME-National offers a collection of educational workshops geared to architects and engineers, construction and project managers, designers, contractors and contracting professionals working with DOD and other federal agencies. From Design-Build to Project Management, all workshops address timely topics affecting the industry while providing information specific to the DOD market.

SAME University allows participants to choose from two-day or three-day seminars to intense training with applications specific to DOD. Attendees at these courses earn Professional Development Hours (PDH’s).

The Los Angeles Post strongly supports education and training throughout life. Our STEM Outreach program enables the engineering community to touch and train the minds of our Country’s youth beginning at the most influential period of life – elementary school. Our Scholarship program supports the continued education of college students. The SAME National University program supports working engineers with continuing educational options. While our links to Mentorship programs offer firms the means to connect to a partnering firm already knowledgeable in the Federal Procurement arena.
