Gail Farber was appointed Director of the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works on December 1, 2008. In this capacity, she also serves as the County Road Commissioner, County Engineer, and Chief Engineer of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District.
The Public Works Department has 4,000 employees and a budget of more than $2 billion. The Department designs, constructs, installs, operates and repairs roads, highways, bridges, airports, flood control and water conservation facilities, sanitary sewers, water distribution systems, and regulatory and ministerial programs for the County, the Los Angeles County Flood Control District, and other special districts and contract cities.
It also provides project management services for County capital and earthquake recovery projects and provides a leadership role in the Countywide transportation system, traffic mitigation efforts, and solid and hazardous waste management plans.
