USACE Planning in 2012

Dr. Josephine Axt joined SAME-LA as guest speaker for the Post’s February event. Dr. Axt serves as the Chief of Planning Division at the Los Angeles District US Army Corps of Engineers. Dr. Axt’s message was on Planning Priorities and Water Conservation in Southern California: The Role of the Corps in Watershed Management. Dr. Axt shared that the Federal Government acknowledges the previously cumbersome process for studies and indicated that a drive is in place to shorten the processing time from six years down to three. “The revised process consolidates key decisions into the early part of the study process, allowing for more clear scoping and focused attention on relevant details. It integrates early decision making with more flexible analysis and emphasizes focused risk management strategies.”
